The Dairy Products Production report details production by product type (ice cream, yogurt, cheese, butter, etc.). It always reports the prior month to its release (Feb release reports Dec). It is a fairly reliable report and provides useful information for commodity flow and some indication of demand level for non-storable commodities like yogurt and cheese. It's not as influential on prices as the cold storage report, but it does offer good insight into demand ahead of disappearance figures. Fluid data is also important as it is a major component of demand, highly seasonal and influences spot load availability for the manufacturing market. I count yogurt production as part of fluid consumption as the milk-equivalents are the same and yogurt is fast becoming a fluid replacement product in the minds of consumers. |
